My experience with Touch Of Joy has always been exceptional in the years that I have been a loyal client of this skin center in Vancouver. The level of excellence in both customer service and cutting edge skin and body treatments are why I have always recommended people to go here for advanced skin care therapies. I always refer people to Joy Stewart, owner and founder of Touch Of Joy for personal skincare advice. Being in the skincare and beauty industry myself I don't trust many people. I highly respect beauty professionals who seek to educate their clientele as a part of their services. This is why I am grateful to have Joy as a personal mentor and skin advisor for the last 14 years because I have learned so much from her! AlumierMD is a high grade of science-based formulations with innovative delivery systems. It is very well known for their result driven and outstanding performance while being free of parabens, petrolatum, mineral oil and dyes. One of their core values is sustainability and ensuring that none of their products are tested on animals. Knowing all of this and trusting in Joy's expertise made me very excited to try this brand with the popular Glow Peel. What is a Chemical Peel For? Chemical peels cause a level of epidermal damage in order to stimulate new tissue which improves skin texture and overall appearance. Chemical exfoliation works by loosening the connections between the dead skin cells, this is what causes the skin exfoliation and helps to stimulate healthy new skin cells. After a few days your dead skin cells peel off, revealing brighter and a more rejuvenated complexion. It can help to diminish the appearance of fine lines, hyper pigmentation, discoloration/dark spots and enlarged pores. Your skincare will also work more efficiently after having a peel. Not having any build up of dead skin cells on the surface of your skin allows for better penetration of subsequent treatments and products. What is the Alumier Glow peel and why did I get it done? Not all chemical peels are the same and you have to be sure that you are getting the right treatment that a professional has recommended for you depending on your skin type and the results you desire. I chose to have this particular chemical peel done because I felt that I needed a deep exfoliation. My skin tone was uneven and I noticed I had some hyper pigmentation and dark spots from some acne. From what I had read and had been told the Alumier Glow Peel was perfect for that and would help to brighten my complexion. The Glow Peel uses a combination of lactic acid, salicylic acid, and resorcinol. Depending on your skin type and your needs, the Glow peel can be customized in strength by the number of layers that are used. My Experience and Results Having the peel done began with a gentle cleansing of my skin. As the first layer of peel began to be applied I noticed that my esthetician was very carefully analyzing my skin. It felt slightly tingly around my chin, but not uncomfortable. She was looking at how my skin was responding and asking me how I felt, which was very reassuring for me. I felt good and she saw that my skin was responding well so she applied a second layer on. It began to feel a little bit warmer, but it never burned. After a few minutes, she applied the Alumier post peel balm which is part of the aftercare. It immediately soothed my skin with ingredients like aloe vera, shea butter, jojoba and lavender. At the very end she applied a layer of the Alumier Moisture Matte broad spectrum 40 SPF mineral based sunscreen and gave me the post peel after care kit which included a cleanser, the balm and the sunscreen. I was given clear indications for my home aftercare and what I could expect in the next few days. It's very important to wear an effective sunscreen and provide as much nourishment and hydration to your skin both internally and externally. I love the Alumier sunscreen as it's light and leaves absolutely no white cast or pasty look and can be applied underneath makeup without a greasy feeling. This is one of my new favourite brands of sun protection by far! Feed your skin the right nutrients and provide essential hydration by drinking tons of lemon water to heal and regenerate healthy new skin cells and diminish excess dryness after this treatment. I made sure to stay away from inflammatory foods like processed sugar and increased my Omega fatty acid intake with a high quality supplement. The first couple days after the peel I didn’t really feel a major difference other than feeling like my skin was slightly tighter. It was on the 4th and 5th day that I saw my skin beginning to peel on my cheeks and on my T-Zone area. You're not supposed to pick at your skin because this can cause more damage and cause hyper-pigmentation. The down time is relatively minimal when you follow the guidelines and ensure that your skin is properly protected from sun exposure. It was after about 8-10 days that I was able to see the full effect and how bright and smooth my skin looked and felt. It was fantastic to see how the dark spots had faded and that my complexion had a more even tone and glow to it, it truly lives up to its name GLOW PEEL! I would highly recommend getting an Alumier Glow Peel if you want to reduce dullness, the look of enlarged pores and fine lines and increase brightness and achieve a healthier looking complexion. My advice would be to seek out a local professional that is knowledgeable and experienced to be able to adapt the right kind of chemical peel for your kind of skin. I look forward to utilizing Alumier on a more regular basis as a part of my advanced skincare regimen and routine.
